Not much work done today…not feeling so well. But I did cut out the sitting room ceiling and string the chandelier through it.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

And added the lighted kerosene lamp on the table.

The lamp on the table is an LED bulb and quite white light, so I may need to make it more yellow later.

In any case….be well.

Started out by making window trim and window sills for the sitting room windows.

Then I needed to take the windows themselves apart to stain the inside of them.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

And I glued in the final tower wall sections.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Then I finished up the wallpaper, and all the window trim and sills.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Didn’t quite make it to the pocket doors, but here’s the room so far.

Here’s looking in from the front hallway.

And a view of the whole front wall.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Still plenty to do, including ceiling, crown moulding, curtains, chandelier, pocket doors, and much more…

But for now, good night.

Worked on more wallpaper today. Also managed to get the paper in the left corner a bit wonky and had to pull it all off, clean up the mess, and replace the paper. (I took photos, as I like to keep a record of my mistakes as well as my successes, but I didn’t realize the camera didn’t have a card in it…)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I also glued the walls in as I went along.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

And added trim in the doorways, as well as a door sill and a door jamb in the hallway doorway on the left.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Tomorrow, I will need to finish off the last two tower wall sections, add trim and window sills to the windows, and somehow figure out how to make sliding pocket doors in the entrance to the drawing room on the right (the unstained piece of wood in the doorway is keeping the walls apart the correct thickness, until I can get the doors in…)

But for now, good night.

So today, I put together a design based on a Bradbury and Bradbury wallpaper and frieze.

22

It took a while for me to get the pattern together right and to scale it correctly. Then I printed a trial copy out on regular paper, and taped it in to get an idea what it would look like.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I liked the results, so I had to find the stiff paper I used to use for printing wallpaper. I printed out a few sheets, cut them out, and glued them on.

Didn’t have time to get very far, but I think I like the look of the room with it up.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I will add trim around the doorway, cut the baseboard correctly. stain and add crown molding, and also stain and add wainscoting above the baseboard.  I may also add a pattern to the ceiling, but for now…good night.

Continued working on the floor boards today. Measuring and cutting…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

And staining and gluing…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Until the octagonal corner was finished.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Got about this far when I placed the rug on top, so my little helper could see the final effect before going to bed.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Then, after he left, I finished the entire floor (although I left the final piece for my little helper to stain and glue in tomorrow morning, as promised…) There is one mistake in the floor pattern, but it’s hard to find and it will be under the rug anyway…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

So here’s the sitting room with the floor completed:

And here’s a view of the fireplace through a window…

Tomorrow, if it rains as much as today, we’ll start on the wallpaper.

Good night.

And cut…and stained…and glued some more…

Until we ended up here…

Still a ways to go.

This afternoon, my little helper and I cut out more floor boards for the sitting room. Then he stained them carefully.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

We worked our way around the octagonal tower. Tomorrow we will be putting the decorative trim in (not cut yet).

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I had forgotten how much time each little detail takes in a dollhouse…and how addictive it can become!

Be well.

Today, we started in on the sitting room while we waited for supplies for the drawing room to arrive.

First, we added a wall in the corner behind the fireplace, and plugged the fireplace wires in to see how that would look.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Then my little helper plugged in the chandelier and held it in place to check the effect…he is a great fan of electricity. We seem to have one dead bulb…I’ll have to switch that out.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Then we started cutting out and staining pieces for the floor.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

After dinner, I took advantage of some free time and got some more floor pieces done. Nothing is glued in yet since I haven’t quite decided how far in the decorative trim will go.

Good night and be well.

Rosewood stain

We had to shift through a lot of old cans of stain, but we found a Rosewood one that will work perfectly for the wainscoting and trim. I also experimented with ceiling paints.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

So now I ordered a lot more wainscoting pieces and trim pieces, as well as a chandelier and a few other missing parts. So we’ll wait until they show up to keep going.

Be well.

Starting up again

So here we are, several years later, and my son, who is now 6 years old, suddenly says, “Mommy, can we work on the dollhouse together?”

And just like that, I have a little helper:

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

After pulling the dollhouse out and setting things up again, we started up on the drawing room that was half-finished before.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

We reprinted the “paintings” to fit the frames correctly and glued them and the mirror together.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

We also reprinted the hedgehog picture by Vincent Desjardins for the nursery, which had never fit the frame correctly,

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Then we reprinted wallpaper and trim for the drawing room and we’re now deciding between using wood or using wall paper trim as wainscoting.

That’s all for today. Hope all of you are still doing fine. I know it’s been a long time since I blogged…having a little child around the house does that to you.

Be well.
